Program Information
Dolly Parton, beloved singer, actor, humanitarian, and founder of Dolly’s Imagination Library!
The international organization has mailed more than 130 Million books since its inception back in 1995. Every year, the Blue Ribbon Book Selection Committee, a specially selected panel of early childhood literacy experts, review hundreds of titles for inclusion in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Now mailing over a million books every month, Dolly’s continued efforts have made it our way!
Linn County now has a local “Champion” sponsoring our outreach to you! Thanks to coordination between the Kansas Masonic Literacy Center and our local Parents As Teachers, residents of Linn County can now enroll with Dolly’s Imaginary Library. Free membership means a free book every month for the most important years of our young lives. Early childhood literacy means more than reading a book, it can mean building a meaningful collection of books. Creating an at home library is a great step towards inspiring yourself and our young ones to read.
Newborn children, to the age of five, are eligible to enroll at no cost to you. If you visit your local Linn County District Library you can enroll today. While you’re there, also ask about our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program! 1000 Books is our way to motivate readers to read to our youth, and another way you can build on your home’s library.
